Main House Information

 
 

Please make yourself at home in the historic warm and inviting Twenty Mile House. Originally built in 1854, it has a rich history of accommodating guests for over 160 years. It is fully equipped to ensure your stay is comfortable. 

Twenty Mile House Grounds

You are welcome to enjoy the grounds and gardens of the 200 acres surrounding Twenty Mile House. Please help us reduce our ecological footprint by staying on pathways and trails.

Feather River Access

River access is available by following the trail beginning across the train tracks nearest the General Store. The trail is marked by rocks and logs so it is easy to follow. A beach access point is at the end of the 200-foot trail to the river. Please take care and look before crossing the train tracks as it is an active railway line.

*The Feather River and Jackson Creek have fast-flowing currents. There is no lifeguard on duty. Please do not leave children or pets unsupervised in or near the river or creek. Swim and wade at your own risk.

Old Sloat Road

Old Sloat Road is the dirt road extending from the general guest parking area near the Main Guest House. It provides access to a lovely hiking trail located roughly ¾ of a mile down the road. This hiking trail will bring you to a high point with spectacular river views.

Below you will find information about the amenities we provide during your stay. Should you find yourself in need of assistance, you should be able to locate one of our many helpful members of staff in the General Store, Main House, or surrounding grounds.

We understand the importance of staying connected. Free wireless internet is available during your stay. The network information is:

Television

There is a television in the upstairs living room with an Amazon Fire Stick. Tubi and Amazon Prime are available for your convenience, and you may also choose to login to additional apps using your personal login information.

Organic Coffee and Tea

Organic coffee and tea are provided for you in the house. Please let us know if you would like them refilled during your stay.

On your departure, please leave the key in the lock box and set it to 0000.

Heating and Air-Conditioning

living room

Wood burning stove

There is a cozy wood burning stove located downstairs in the dining room. Wood will be provided during your stay. Please let us know if you require more at any time. 

Directions on how to light and use the stove are located in the metal pail next to the stove. When lighting and placing wood in the stove, please take care to ensure embers do not fall onto the floor or carpet.  

The handle of the stove will be HOT once the stove is lit. Please make sure you use the pot holder provided on the shelf above the stove to grab the handle.

Air-conditioning

An air-conditioning unit is located in the living room to the right of the trundle bed. The thermostat is located on the face of the air-conditioning unit. 

Fireside Room (Upstairs)

There is an electric fireplace located in your room that has a switch for high and low fan settings to regulate heat. If you require additional heating, please let us know and we can provide additional heating sources.

Schoolroom (Upstairs)

Heating

There are electric baseboard heaters located in your room. The thermostat for baseboard heaters is located under the windows in each room. If you require additional heating please let us know and we can provide additional heating sources.

Air-conditioning

An air-conditioning unit is located in the window of the twin bedroom. The thermostat is located on the face of the unit.

Parlor Room (Downstairs)

Heating

There is an electric fireplace located in your room, which has a switch for high and low fan settings to regulate heat. The switch is located on the front of the fireplace. In addition there are electric baseboard heaters located under the window in the bedroom and in the bathroom and they have dials on them to adjust temperature. If you require additional heating, please let us know and we can provide additional heating sources.

Trading Post Room (Downstairs) 

Heating 

There is an electric fireplace located in your room that has a switch for high and low fan settings to regulate heat. In addition there are electric baseboard heaters. The thermostat dial for baseboard heaters is located behind the antique armoire. If you require additional heating, please let us know and we can provide additional heating sources.

Kitchen

The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook meals during your stay. Please let us know if there are any additional items you require and we will try to accommodate your request. 

Please ensure the kitchen and dishes are clean and put away upon your departure.

Trash

There is a bear-proof dumpster behind the General Store if you would like to dispose of full trash bags. You can also notify our staff if you would like us to collect your trash and take it to the dumpster for you. 

Please do not leave trash outside as it will attract bears.

Housekeeping

Please let us know if you have any additional needs for towels, sheets, or other amenities in your room. Additional towels are available in the bathroom cupboard for the guests staying in the living room on the trundle bed.

There is no daily maid service for the main Twenty Mile House.

BBQ

There is a gas BBQ located on the patio outside the front door of the main house. 

To use the BBQ turn on the gas cylinder and use the self-ignition button to light the BBQ. Please make sure to turn the gas cylinder off when you are finished.

Please clean the BBQ after each use.

Living & Dining Area

You are welcome to relax in the upstairs living area and downstairs dining area in the Main House. 

Fire Pit

A fire pit is located outside of the Main House for use during your stay. We ask that you follow the procedure below for lighting and dampening the fire (instructions are also located at the fire pit).

If you have any questions, please seek a staff member for assistance.

Outdoor Fire Pit Use Procedure

Lighting the fire pit

  • ALWAYS make sure that the lava rocks are dry. DO NOT light fire if the lava rocks are wet, as they may explode.

  • Open door to the propane tank cabinet and make sure the line to the fire pit is connected securely to the tank.

  • Turn dial on the propane tank counterclockwise to open, then close door.

  • Check that the lava rocks are not covering the spark guard in the center of the fire area.

  • Use the starter button to light the fire (if the starter button will not work, please notify an employee).

Wind Caution

  • If it is extremely windy outside, the flame may not stay lit.

  • You may need to increase the flame to “HIGH.”

  • Discontinue using the fire pit if it will not stay lit.

Let employee know if

  • Fire pit is not working correctly.

  • There is a lot of black smoke.

  • If the flame will not stay lit.

  • If any of these occur, please turn off the propane tank as outlined below before leaving the fire pit unattended.

Turning Off the Fire Pit

  • Once you are finished using the fire pit please shut it off by turning the dial on the propane tank clockwise until it will not turn any more.

  • ALWAYS ensure that the propane tank is turned off completely.

  • Please cover the fire pit with the provided cover once it is turned off.

Phone Service

During Events, a phone is available to you at all times in the main Twenty Mile House located to the right of the kitchen sink in the cabinet. An additional phone is located in the General Store for use during event hours; please seek assistance from one of our staff members. Any calls made outside of the United States will require the use of a phone card. You are welcome to give family and friends our phone number, 530.836.0375, if they need to reach you during your stay. 

Cell phone service can be unreliable on our property. We suggest making phone calls outside of  your accommodations or outside of the General Store. You may also take a scenic drive up Old Cromberg Road and down the highway one mile toward Graeagle. 

Wi-fi calling and texts are possible with the use of our free wi-fi and phone apps. Apps including this feature are Facebook, Duo, and Whatsapp. You may also access your cell phone settings to enable wi-fi calling.

Security

Please lock the door to your room when leaving at any time and or when going to bed. The front and back doors of the main house should be locked in the evenings once all guests in the house are retiring for the night. 

Please do not leave valuables unattended on the grounds or facilities of Twenty Mile House.

Noise

We ask you to please respect other guests and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in our historical Main House or guest rooms.

Creek

Jackson creek runs through the grounds of the Twenty Mile House from near the bridge at the parking lot. Please take care and supervise your children closely at all times. The creek can have strong currents and there is no lifeguard on duty. Swim and wade at your own risk.

Located in the drawer or cupboard of each bathroom in the guest rooms.

Located in the cupboard of each bedroom.

Our eco-friendly luxurious amenities are located in the bathrooms of each guest room.

Extra amenities are located in the twin room of the Schoolroom and in the cupboard of the living room for guests using the living room trundle bed.
